Before you leave the scene, get photos of the damage to your car. And if possible take photos of the buildings around or any material that can help in tracing the robbers.
C. Visit or Call the nearest police station:
You need to make a record of the break in for insurance purposes. Obtain a police abstract detailing how the break in happened as per your knowledge.
D.Make a list of what was stolen:
It’s advisable that you make sure you have a list of everything that you notice was stolen or dismantled or damaged. Make this list before you even leave the scene. You should only do this if it is safe to do so.
E. Deactivate your cell phone/Credit cards/debit cards etc:
Make sure this is should be done immediately if you notice they were stolen to help prevent against cyber theft, identity theft, or even just creepy phone calls to rob your family members or friends.
F. Call your insurance Intermediary/Company:
Calling your insurance agent will help in taking you through the claims procedures and how to file a claim. They will also help you in completing a claim form.Note:1. Damage to your car is normally covered under your motor insurance policy- Comprehensive insurance. 2. Replacement of your lost goods could be covered under the following insurance policies:(i) Domestic Package Insurance/ Home Insurance(ii) All Risk Insurance or(iii) Motor Insurance.
G. Get your car repaired:
Your Insurance may ask you to take your car to either of their appointed garages or a garage of your choice. If the car is stalled, you may be required to tow your car; the towing extension is normally bought at inception of a policy or later if one feels the need to. For those who do not have towing extension in their Motor insurance they are not limited to the towing charges at their own cost.
H. Locate proof of ownership of your goods:
Your insurance claim will go much smoother and your reimbursement will be much more accurate if you are able to prove that you owned the items that were stolen, and how much they cost. Look for sales receipts, credit card bills, and photos of the items that were stolen.
